Resumo

Contexto: Os suplementos esportivos (SS) são amplamente consumidos por diversos tipos de atletas para melhorar seu desempenho. Estes SS são classificados de acordo com o seu nível de evidência científica, pelo sistema ABCD do Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). Na natação em águas abertas, a sua utilização pode ser necessária devido aos desafios fisiológicos colocados por esta modalidade desportiva. No entanto, atualmente há pouca literatura sobre o uso do SS em nadadores de águas abertas. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o padrão de consumo de SS por nadadores de travessias, estudando as diferenças de acordo com o nível competitivo (regional vs. nacional). Métodos: Estudo descritivo e transversal sobre o consumo e uso de SS por nadadores federados de águas abertas na Espanha nas temporadas 2019/2020 e 2020/2021. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário validado. Resultados: 79,5% dos participantes consumiram SS, com diferenças significativas de acordo com o nível, sendo maior em atletas de nível nacional. Os SS mais consumidos pelos nadadores estudados foram bebidas esportivas, barras energéticas, cafeína, vitamina C e vitamina D. Conclusões: Observou-se que o consumo de SS nos nadadores de águas abertas foi elevado, e dos cinco SS mais consumidos , quatro deles pertenciam à categoria de maior evidência científica.
